The Traffic Engineering Division of the Engineering Department is managed by the City Traffic Engineer and is responsible for the overall administration and design of transportation engineering projects. Such projects include evaluation of traffic signal and/or other traffic control requests, construction of new sidewalks, design of street lighting systems, review of traffic control plans for public works improvement projects, administration of the Traffic Calming Program, and design of parking facilities. This division also performs as a liaison between the City and private, state, and federal offices to insure maximum funding of roadway improvement projects through private, local, state, and federal sources. Traffic Engineering applies the principles of access management in reviewing site and subdivision plans to provide the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
