Stormwater Operational Mission Statement

The City of Gastonia is dedicated to providing the highest level of service in Public Works. To that end, the Stormwater Utility is dedicated to the maintenance and expansion of the storm drainage infrastructure, compliance with EPA guidelines for Phase II MS4s, and a rigorous storm water impact attenuation program.

The City of Gastonia Stormwater Utility will:

• 1) Provide for the responsive maintenance of the existing storm drainage system.
• 2) Provide for improvements and extensions to the existing Stormwater infrastructure.
• 3) Encourage the proper installation of improvements to the system.
• 4) Develop programs commensurate with the six minimum measures set out by EPA.
• 5) Develop operational programs commensurate with the NPDES permit.
• 6) Develop and execute cooperative programs to address existing, and future storm water related problems, and support existing programs.
• a) Provide personnel and funding for existing "Storm Drainage Policy"
• b) Provide for categorization of projects.
• c) Provide funding for other off R/W storm water projects.

The Stormwater Utility will actively encourage non-pipe solutions whenever possible for resolution of off R/W requests for service.
