Duties
Mr. Wood has been with the City of Gastonia since January, 1986, and has served as Director of Human Resources, Executive Director of Public Safety and Human Resources, and presently serves as Assistant City Manager - Public Services. As an Assistant City Manager, Mr. Wood provides senior management oversight to a number of assigned City departments including Police, Fire, Municipal Airport, Municipal Golf Course, Parks and Recreation, and Schiele Museum of Natural History and Planetarium.
A Career of Excellence
His private sector experience includes positions as Director of Human Resources and Personnel Manager with Newmont Mining Corporation subsidiary, Foote Mineral Company, Spectrum Dyed Yarns, and Carolina Throwing Company, all in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. He has been licensed in North Carolina as a General Contractor and as a Real Estate Broker and has designed and taught business-related classes for the North Carolina Community College System. He has also been certified by the International Personnel Management Association as IPMA-CP.
Mr. Wood has a Master of Business Administration degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. He has served in many civic and professional capacities including Past President - Kings Mtn. United Way, Blue Ridge Safety Council, Kings Mtn. Personnel Association; Vice President- K.M. Chamber of Commerce; Board member - K.M. Board of Adjustments, K.M. Rescue Squad, K.M Rotary Club, Leadership Gaston, N.C. Local Government Employees Credit Union and Gaston County Crimestoppers; N.C. Employment Security Commission Employers Advisory Board, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Board of Advisors, NC-IPMA Research Committee Chair, Gaston Literacy Council Board of Directors, Gaston County Aquatic Center Committee, Gaston County United Way Campaign Cabinet, NC-IPMA Planning Committee, US-IPMA Publication Review Committee, and was selected by US-IPMA as Conference Exchange Delegate to England.
He is married to Cindi Alexander Wood. They have two sons, Brandon and Lane.
