The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) manages the hiring process for sworn, non-sworn or intern applicants by conducting thorough background investigations and sending completed applicant files to the Chief of Police. In addition, the OPS conducts administrative investigations as needed while maintaining secure records of internal matters and employee training.
The Gastonia Police Department offers a variety of job opportunities for police officers: Criminal Investigations, Vice/Narcotics, Crime Scene Investigations, Community Coordinators, Street Crimes Unit, Bicycle Patrol, Administrative Services, Crime Prevention, Internal Affairs, Tactical Unit, K-9 Unit, SWAT Team, Bomb Squad, Dive Team, Hostage Negotiators, Shift Investigators, Shift Snipers, Honor Guard, Traffic and Training.
Starting salary levels for officers:
- No experience, high school degree: $29,796
- No experience, 2 year degree: $32,897
- No experience, 4 year degree: $36,500
