Fire prevention is the main goal of fire service and the responsibility of every member of the Gastonia Fire Department. The Life Safety Division has responsibility for coordinating the key elements of the Fire Prevention Program. These elements include:

  • Public Education
  • Arson Investigation
  • Enforcement of Fire Codes
  • Enforcement of Fire Ordinances
  • Plans Review
  • Property Inspection
  • Evaluating Built-in Fire Protection Training.

Gastonia Fire Marshal, Greg Floyd, oversees all the above activities. Also on staff in the Life Safety Division are an Assistant Fire Marshal, a full time Life Safety Educator and two Fire Inspectors.

The Life Safety Educator and a City Fire Fighter in full personal protective clothing at an in-school program, instruct the children in fire safety techniques.
