New! Introducing the new Hometown Green energy efficiency program!

Before you look at upgrading your home heating & cooling system, take a look at this! The City of Gastonia is making it a little easier for you to go "green." A rebate in the amount of $400 is now available for the installation of a residential high efficiency heat pump (14 SEER rating or higher.)

In Brief

The City of Gastonia has its own municipal electrical system and is part of ElectriCities of North Carolina which owns part of Catawba Nuclear Station. The City supplies an average of 52,769,400 KWH per month to the 25,461 residential, commercial, and industrial customers through eleven substations operating at primary voltages of 44 and 15 KV. Our newest Rankin Lake Substation was energized on July 27, 2001, and will serve the new Gastonia Technology Park and our newest industrial customer Pass & Seymour.

Our Mission

The mission of the City of Gastonia Electric Department is to operate and maintain the electrical system in a manner to provide satisfactory services for all customers. In addition, the department will implement all major goals and objectives to provide for system improvements.

Location

The City’s Electrical Department has 40 full-time employees and is located in the City’s Municipal Operations Center at 1300 North Broad street.
